Herpes simplex: Signs and symptoms of herpes in man or woman
Herpes simplex: Signs and symptoms:
- itching, tingling or burning
- blistering sores in the mouth or on the genitals of infected persons
- an eye infection, as HSV can also spread to the eyes, causing a condition called herpes
keratitis. This can cause symptoms like eye pain, discharge, and a gritty
feeling in the eyes.
- flu-like symptoms like fever, swollen lymph
nodes, headaches, tiredness or lack of appetite.
- urinating problems, pain during urination (genital herpes)
- small white or red pimples (develop into larger, fluid-filled sores)- may be red, white or yellow
- specially with oral herpes and female genital herpes,
these sores tend to burst before crusting over.
- along with flu-like symptoms, men may experience swollen
lymph nodes in their groin.

Genital herpes with mild symptoms:
- most people who have genital herpes have no symptoms or may have very mild symptoms.
- you may not notice mild symptoms or you consider them for
another skin related problem such as a pimple or ingrown hair.
- because of this, most people with herpes do not know it.
Signs of herpes on a
woman:
- Itching,
tingling, or burning feeling in the anal or vaginal area.
- Flu-like
symptoms, including fever or tiredness.
- Swollen
glands.
- A feeling of pressure in below stomach area.
- Pain in
the legs, buttocks, or vaginal areas.
- A change
in vaginal discharge.
- Headache.
- Painful urination.
How long do HSV symptoms last?
- normally herpes outbreak are resolved in 2 to 3 weeks.
- sores may take up to four (4) weeks to heal.
- those who are immunocompromised, herpes may take long time to
completely disappear.
Symptoms that can be mistaken for herpes
simplex:
- A different
STI which causes visible injuries such as Syphilis or genital warts (HPV)
- Irritation
caused by shaving
- Pimples.
- Yeast infections.
- Haemorrhoids.
- Bug bites.
- Bacterial vaginosis (BV)
- Ingrown hairs.
