HSV-1 vs HSV-2

Usually HSV-1 is transmitted by oral to oral contact which cause oral herpes (which can include symptoms known as cold sores), but it can also cause genital herpes. HSV-2 is a sexually transmitted infection which cause genital herpes.

Is HSV 1 an STD?

Genital herpes is an STD caused by two types of simplex viruses. These viruses are called herpes simplex virus type 1 and other is known as herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).

What is the difference between HSV 1 IgG and HSV 2 IGG?

One of the advantages of the IgG test is that it is better able to us to make difference between HSV-1, i.e. the type primarily associated with cold sores and HSV-2 i.e. the type that usually causes genital herpes compared to the IgM test.

Is HSV 1 or 2 worse?

Most cases of genital herpes are caused by HSV-2, whereas HSV-1 can also cause genital herpes, but remember Generally someone with HSV-2 will have sores around the genitals or in the rectum. Symptoms are generally the most intense during the first outbreak and become less intense over time.

Is HSV 1 and 2 the same virus?

Many people consider HSV-1 more friendly, but it turns out there is not much difference between the two types of herpes virus. While it is also true that HSV-2 is known as sexually transmitted disease (STD) and can cause genital sores or blisters, and type 1 can also do the same thing.

Can you become immune to HSV 1?

Having cold sores in present or earlier as a child does not make you immune to genital herpes. Cold sores on the mouth are caused by the HSV-1 virus and genital sores are caused by the herpes simplex type 2 virus.
